Purpose and lawful basis for processing

JL Partners conducts market research on behalf of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). The research will enable the ICO to better understand the views, attitudes and opinions of the UK public.

 

The lawful basis we rely on for processing your personal data is your consent under article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR.

 

In addition, if we process any special category data, for example, information about your ethnicity or health-related information such as details about a disability, we will rely on your explicit consent under article 9(2)(a) of the UK GDPR.

 

What we need

If you choose to take part in our research, we will collect some information from you. This may include your name, address and contact information at the recruitment stage along with information about your opinions, attitudes and experiences that you choose to share when taking part in research activities.

 

To obtain a diverse research panel, we may process information relating to race and disability.

 

Some research may be audio or video recorded or may involve photographs. We will always tell you what will be recorded or collected before the activity starts and explain how it will be used. 

 

What we do with it

JL Partners will use your contact information to facilitate your participation in the research.

 

Both JL Partners and the ICO will use the information you provide during the research to better understand the views of the UK public.

 

JL Partners will share pseudonymised research findings with the ICO. This means your real name may be replaced with a pseudonym before anything is shared. The information shared may include audio and video

recordings, photographs, and individual or aggregated survey responses.

 

The ICO may publish some findings in a public report, such as on its website. The report will not include information that directly identifies you, such as your name, contact details or photographs showing your face. It may include quotes from you under a pseudonym, with identifying details removed.

 

JL Partners and the ICO will only use photographs or recordings at external conferences or webinars if you have given consent before the research takes place.

 

How long we keep it

JL Partners will retain your information for a maximum of two years from the end of this research.

 

The ICO does not receive or retain any personal information about you.

 

What are your rights?

You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. In addition, you have the following rights:

 

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 

  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 

  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

JL Partners relies on several data processors to support this research:

  •  Cint, Walr, Dynata, Criteria Fieldwork Limited and Cragg Ross

  • Dawson Research to help source and recruit research participants.

  • Qualzy to provide an online community platform.

  • Alchemer to provide the survey collection platform.

 

Do we transfer data overseas?

No.
